Just in time for holiday gatherings and new year resolutions – Forget Me
Not™ memory app lands “staff favorites” list at iTunes store
You may not remember someone’s name at a holiday party or business
gathering, but you’ll never forget how it feels: the growing embarrassment as
you spend more time chasing a memory of a name than listening to the person
behind it.
Now, there’s an app for that memory gap.
Recently rolled out by Greg Bauer and Nathan Carnahan of Bauer 360 and named
to the iTunes Store staff favorite list, it has moved into the top 25 in the
world for a Productivity App.
Forget Me Not (www.forgetmenotapp.com) quickly — and discreetly
— cross-references clues and associations with people to produce names, avoid
awkwardness and eliminate hurt feelings.
Forget Me Not functions on the premise that people often forget
someone’s name, but they can remember the background facts or associations with
that person. The FMN mobile phone database of stored names and clues bridges
that memory gap. “Our memory enhancer uses associative learning practices so
you can discreetly retrieve background facts you’ve already stored in your
device to trigger your brain,” says creator Greg Bauer.
As an example, Jack could meet Jill at a Starbucks during a break in a
business conference, after the kids’ soccer practice or before a school event.
Forget Me Not allows him to enter Jill’s name into his mobile device along with
the associated clues about where, why and how they last met. Months later,
perhaps at a neighborhood holiday party, any of those same clues (Starbucks,
soccer, etc.) can be tapped in to instantly call up Jill’s name along with any
background information — interests, family or profession, for example.
The $3.99 app, about the cost of that latte Jill was buying at
Starbucks, is currently developed for iPhone and iTouch and will soon be
available for Blackberry, Palm Pre and Google’s Android. Versions 1.1 and 1.2
will be released by the first of the
year with multiple contact downloads, sync functionality to the website,
enhanced search capabilities and additional highlights.
“As of today, we figure we
have been downloaded about 1,000
times since we launched on November 28, says co-creator Nathan Carnahan. “We think we have a great, affordable
gift for immediate use, and we may have some important applications for
therapeutic use with consumers who are in need of cognitive development aids or
are recovering from trauma situations and temporary memory loss.”
Bauer came up with the Forget Me Not idea after years of struggling to
remember the names of people he encountered a few times a year through
business, coaching, social events and more. After forgetting the names of a
cousin’s children, enough was enough. Development spanned six months and
concentrated on ease of use. Similar apps simply had too many steps and moving
parts to be practical. After beta testing it on fellow forgetters of names,
Bauer knew he had hit on his hands.
“Forget Me Not lets me do a complete end run around what used to be an
incredibly awkward situation. I really enjoy meeting new people, and the last
thing I want to do is leave anyone feeling slighted. But my memory can only do
so much,” Bauer said. “I can’t remember how many times Forget Me Not has come
through for me.”
